Shruti
Sound yoga for trans+ and queer artists, teachers and the communities they serve.
Overview
Many spiritual traditions have erased the history and voices of trans+ and queer people. Shruti is a sacred sanctuary where we can remember and reclaim our ancient voice.
We invite emerging and seasoned trans+ and queer artists, healers and teachers to host online workshops and events with their communities. We end each event with group singing led by devotional singers and nāda yoga practitioners.
We are volunteer-led and built by queer folks, for queer folks. All of our sessions are by donation.
We believe the divine is something to be experienced and realised - not followed through religious dogma.
Sacred sound, voice and music are paths through which Shruti community members can remember their own divinity.
For you if you…
are interested in your growth and understanding your spiritual gifts.
want more creative expression of your voice and a space to dream your trans+ journey.
would like gentle, structured support from group facilitators who can hold nuance, uncertainty, and mixed feelings.
are open to being in a shared community, respecting others’ experiences, and keeping what’s shared confidential.
Not for if you…
are looking for a debate about whether trans people should exist, or a platform for anti‑trans views; we are a gender‑affirming, queer‑respecting space.
are in acute crisis (e.g. active self‑harm, suicidal intent, psychosis) and need urgent or ongoing clinical mental‑health care.
need medical or legal advice.
are unwilling to follow our community agreements around respect, confidentiality, and consent.
Community Safeguarding
All community members and teachers must agree to our safeguarding policy.
Shruti is not a replacement for professional therapy or trained gender‑identity services. Our community agreements include respect for others, optional cameras during online events, and not pressuring others to adopt labels. We will never contact your employers/families, or share your personal data.
"Shruti was born out of a desire to see trans+ people reconnect with our shared spiritual histories.”

Origin Story
“Shruti was born out of a desire to see trans+ people reconnect with our shared spiritual histories.
In India, I noticed Kinnar/Hijra (third gender) people sitting outside or away from the temple grounds, and found myself wondering why they weren't going inside.
I don’t believe in God/creator/the divine as dogma (organised religion), but the divine as something that is to be realised and experienced. For trans+ people struggling with understanding their path ahead, that can start by simply looking in the mirror and recognising your own divinity.
Devotional singing has shaped my gender identity and expression. It connects me with my ancestors, opens space for future visioning, and grounds my nervous system in the present moment.
I sing not to perform or sound good to others, but to remember that I am divine within, regardless of what the outside world may say.
My clothing choices and self-adornment are work-in-progress but I know they represent an expression of the divine. Trans+ people are powerful because we realise we are not our bodies but are divine souls - and we express how our souls want us to express.”
